We are the ones we have been waiting for. - Barack Obama, February 8, 2008
This print was inspired by the truth that communities of everyday people working together can make a change. While this line is most commonly attributed to Barack Obama in modern times, my research of it led me to discover that these words originally belonged to someone else. First to the title of a collection of essays by Alice Walker, and before that to June Jordan in her 1980 "Poem for South African Women." After much debate I kept the attribution to Obama out of a spirit of relevancy for the importance of this idea as we move through the time after his presidency.
We Are the Ones is a multi-color screen print on natural stretched canvas. Each print features hand applied color in shades of dusty violet, cornflower and mint that makes it a unique one of a kind.
Measures 8x11" on handmade pine frame.
Ships USPS First Class within 5 business days
Through June, $5 from the sale of each print will be donated to the Chicago Abortion Fund in memory of June Jordan. I am grateful to see an organization in Obama's hometown committed to empowering all women, regardless of income, with the ability to choose their own journey.
